U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has set a trial date for former President Donald Trump’s election interference case, scheduling it for March 4, 2024. This decision has significant implications for the 2024 presidential race, as it places the trial in the midst of the Republican primaries and a day before Super Tuesday. During a recent hearing, Chutkan heard arguments from Trump’s legal team and federal prosecutors regarding the trial date. The special counsel proposed starting the trial in January, with jury selection in December, while Trump’s team wanted it postponed until April 2026, after the presidential election. Chutkan deemed both proposals unacceptable and insisted that Trump prioritize the trial. She emphasized the public’s interest in a fair and timely administration of justice.
Trump’s lawyers argued that a trial in 2023 would infringe on his rights, given the extensive volume of discovery materials provided by prosecutors. Chutkan dismissed this, stating that the case wouldn’t wait until 2026. She noted that Trump’s team had adequate time to prepare, as the existence of the grand jury investigating him has been public knowledge since September 2022. Trump faces four charges stemming from a federal grand jury indictment, and he pleaded not guilty during an arraignment in August.
Trump is also facing other legal challenges in New York, Georgia, and Florida. The New York trial is set to begin in March, and the Florida trial in May, while the Georgia case’s trial proceedings have not yet been scheduled. Chutkan previously warned Trump against intimidating witnesses in this case, emphasizing that his First Amendment right to free speech is not absolute.

Donovan was born and raised in the deep south of South Central Georgia, roughly two hours from the Georgia-Florida line. His father was a guitar player, farmer, and eventually blue color worker for GM. His mother suffered from Scleroderma starting a few years after he was born, so she became a home maker. Growing up as an only child, Donovan’s interest included music (though he really never learned to play anything) and anything dealing with technology, but specifically computers.
He has spent his entire life involved with computer technology either as a hobby or as a career. In his middle to late teens, he ran a BBS (electronic bulletin board system – the precursor to the modern day Internet). He learned about networking computer systems, building computers, and communication technologies as part of his career.
Later in life, he fulfilled his dream of running his own ISP (Internet Service Provider) when he was hired first as the Network Manager and eventually the General Manager of the Telecommunications Department for the City of Tifton, known as CityNet.
Today he runs his own IT business and has been podcasting in some form or fashion since 2011.
